Step up to the plate of eLearning

So if it’s no longer ‘if we will do eLearning but how well we will do it’ what does this mean going forward? This means we need to step up to the plate of eLearning. As the saying goes if we keep doing what we’re doing, we’ll get what we always got. If we use only the techniques we used in the past, we will just get the same thing no matter what kind of wizzbang technology we have. But, if we update our skills to bring us up the eLearning level, we can create engaging, relevant, and long-lasting learning.

So, what specific skills does eLearning require? After decades in the business, I believe eLearning requires these specific skills from those who create it…

  • Writing for online
  • Web or graphic design
  • Instructional design
  • Create learning using e-applications
  • Online presentation/facilitation/communication

Of course, these skills may be a ‘must have’ when it comes to eLearning – and definitely something to keep in mind when thinking about updating your skills or choosing someone, from outside or inside your organisation, to create your eLearning strategy and program. But if you don’t have a plan on how you are going to surround eLearning in success, you won’t see any return on the time you’ve invested. Like many things, eLearning cannot operate in isolation. So how can you surround eLearning in success for the best possible result? Stay tuned!
